Take the Message, Jay Jay 1982

Goodmorning, it’s been a busy week with little activity
here at the GG. Today it’s sunday and finally a quiet day.
The record we have is one I had waiting for some time now.
It is one that’s got a centerhole which is not in the middle
of the vinyl. My turntable does not have a removable pin
so at first I didn’t know how to get it straight. Recently
someone gave me the idea of placing another mat on top
of the first one so the lp gets up a little higher. This way
we’re able to center the record and record it properly.

Let’s see, the African Brothers International Band of Ghana
always finds a happy listener and I’m sure today’s album
forms no exception in that perspective. It is from 1982
on Jay Jay Records. ‘Take the Message’ is it’s title but
I have no idea what the message is. If you understand
the lyrics, can you reveal please, we’d all be eternally
grateful so thanks in advance. What I do know is that
I love the music, no need to understand the language
to be able to enjoy it. Get and spread as usual..

Thank you Moos. I love the African Brothers. Can’t wait to hear this one. I’ve also had the problem of records with offset center holes. Especially Jamaican records. One trick I have used in the past is to bore out the center hole to make it a little bit larger. That way you can position the record on the turn table to achieve the correct center. It works very nice. Cheers. Cole

What Cole wrote. I always used to enlarge the hole using a pen or pencil on 78s or LPs, and tried centering for quality using the last minute or so (on an LP) of the album, where the wow would be worst.

The “message” appears to be that Ghanaians should work together to assist the then-dictator and future-president of Ghana, J.J. Rawlings (hence the title of the first track), clean up the corruption in the country. It stops just short of being straight up propaganda but it is still pretty awesome.
